Where to buy plug-in solar in the UK

On 16 June 2026 the government opened its consultation and held a retailer roundtable. Its press release put it as: “flagship retailers Currys, B&Q, Amazon and Lidl join government plans”, with almost 4,000 stores between the named retailers.

Read that line carefully. “Join government plans” is not the same as “on sale”. B&Q’s Graham Bell said the chain “look forward to making it available as soon as possible” — future tense. At the time of that announcement, no retailer had said a product was on its shelves. This page now does the other job: it records which registered devices we found actually on sale, at what price, and on what date — and which ones we could not find at all.

Every price below was read on the seller’s own site on 2 September 2026, and every product was matched to its entry on the ENA register. Prices in this category move week to week — check before you buy.

City Plumbing figures are the VAT-inclusive ones its site shows; it sells to homeowners as well as trade. UKSOL click & collect covers Hastings, Sheffield, Doncaster, Glasgow, Honiton, The Wirral and Durham. • The cheapest route to a UKSOL kit is a plumbers’ merchant. City Plumbing sells the Pro Compact 460W ground-mount kit at £670.80 and the Pro Duo 890W at £951.60 — £178.20 and £247.40 below the same kits at Argos, and below UKSOL’s own delivered price.
• The seller with the cheapest compliant kit also sells cheaper kits that are not on the register — and says so. Thunder Energy marks exactly two of the eleven products in its plug-in solar category “ENA Compliant”: the Bolt 460W at £549.99 and the Bolt 920W at £749.99. Its Storm 360W at £499.99 is cheaper than either and carries no such mark. If you sort that page by price, the first thing you see is not a registered device.
• The merchant that registered its own kit is selling somebody else’s. City Plumbing holds a compliant entry for a CPS kit of its own (CITYP/21096/V1/A4). Its plug-in solar category on 2 September 2026 contained two products, both UKSOL, and its own brand filter showed no CPS kit at all.

Twelve of the twenty compliant devices had no consumer listing we could find on 2 September 2026. What we saw, in each case:

• Perlight PowerPlug MAX and FLEX+ — eight models. The domain perlightsolar.com is not the manufacturer’s: it is parked for sale by a domain broker. Perlight’s own site is perlight.com, a manufacturer catalogue. Its UK and EU representative is named as Westech Solar (UK) Ltd of Oxford, which sells to installers and distributors. We found no consumer listing for any PowerPlug model, and a web search for the name returns nothing relevant.
• InstaGroup INS-PPG-435 and INS-PPG-800 — two models. Both listed compliant. We could not find either on sale to consumers anywhere.
• The City Plumbing CPS kit — one model. See above: absent from its own category.
• UKSOL Pro Advanced 920W, hybrid mount (UKSOL/21014/V1/A4) — one model. The only one of UKSOL’s seven compliant kits we found nowhere, including UKSOL’s own store.

“We could not find it” is not the same as “it does not exist”. These are the five sellers we checked; a kit could be on sale somewhere we did not look.

Crampton & Moore lists the UKSOL Pro Compact 460W ground-mount kit under the part number UKS-C1-460-MZ1-UKG. The register names the same kit UKS-PRO-C-1-460-MZ1-UKG. Product name, wattage, mount type and the rest of the code agree, and the listing carries EAN 5061132580001 — so this is very probably the registered kit under a shortened code. We have not had that confirmed, so we are telling you rather than deciding for you. Ask the seller to confirm the full System Reference before you order.

Roles are taken from the DESNZ press release of 16 June 2026 and have not changed. The seven names above were the story in June; the five sellers in the table further up are where we actually found stock on 2 September 2026. We did not re-check these seven for this update, so we are not claiming anything about them either way.

Whichever retailer gets there first, the check is the same. Ask for the device’s System Reference on the ENA type test register and look it up yourself — our guide CE marking is not enough explains why that one question beats a CE mark on the box.

And mind the second step: being listed as compliant means the device is accepted by the network operators, not that it is certified to the Interim Product Specification v2. In the words of our legal page: “Until a product states that it meets IPS v2, you are inferring compliance rather than relying on a UK-stamped one — so ask the retailer to confirm it before you buy.”

Which shops will sell plug-in solar in the UK?

At a government roundtable on 16 June 2026, Amazon, Asda, B&Q, Currys, Screwfix and Wickes attended, and DESNZ named Currys, B&Q, Amazon and Lidl as flagship retailers joining its plans - together almost 4,000 stores. That was June. On 2 September 2026 the compliant kits we could actually find on sale were at Argos, City Plumbing, Crampton & Moore, and direct from Thunder Energy and UKSOL. We did not re-check the seven retailers named in June for this update.

Can I buy from the EU or Amazon today?

A kit sold in the EU carries a CE mark, which is a manufacturer self-declaration, not UK grid acceptance. Plug-in solar became legal in Great Britain on 27 August 2026, so the question now is whether the specific kit is on the ENA type test register: check it and ask the seller for the device's System Reference before buying.

What should I check before buying from any retailer?

Ask the seller for the device's System Reference on the ENA type test register and look it up yourself. Being listed as compliant means the device is accepted by the network operators; it does not automatically mean it is certified to the Interim Product Specification v2.

Is any of it in the shops yet?

Some of it already has. On 2 September 2026 we found eight of the twenty compliant devices on sale, listed in the table above with the price we read and where we read it. Twelve we could not find at any price. We check the register daily and record every change on our register history page; shop stock is a separate thing and moves on its own.
